- Gap Filling.
There are two methods of Gap Filling. The first method of glue/ epoxy-resin mixed with saw dust is the cheaper method but will over time (2 – 3yrs), slowly shrink due to thermal expansion. This is because of the boards contracting and expanding during seasonal temperature variations. Hence, it is a short term solution and may not solve the problem as you may need to repeat.
The second option requires more aptitude on the specialists behalf, but is permanent and recommended for that professional wood floor finish. This method involves cutting MDF strips and, gluing/wedging the strips between the floor boards to eliminate those draught allowing gaps.
Floor restoration Procedure
All floors are unique, however the following is in general, the procedure that is carried out:
-
The floor is sanded diagonally across the floor using a 24 grit to ensure a flat surface is obtained. This method also removes indentations and scratch marks that have been caused by furniture being dragged or damaging activities.
-
The floor is then sanded along the boards. This process is repeated as often as necessary. As a result, the boards are sanded back gradually resulting in a smooth, professional finish.
-
An application of Bona Kemi Primer sealer seals the timber and allows for a finish coat. The primer is important as it enhances the grain, if this is the look you are trying to achieve. It also allows an even finish of the final coats.
-
Finally, 2 to 3 coats of Bona Kemi finish water based varnish (e.g. mega, spectra or traffic) are applied to give the finished surface; a hard and durable result.
